A few more details!
Walk from Palolem Beach to main road
How long it’ll take you to walk to the main road where the bus stop is will depend on where exactly you’re staying in Palolem.
But if you’re staying in the main Palolem Beach accommodation area, it will likely take you around 10-15 minutes.
This includes walking from the main Palolem hostels:
- Rainbow Lining hostel
- Summer by hostelcrowd
- Roadhouse hostel
Links to partner website so you can check reviews and BOOK! If you think it’s too much work to go through reviews, just book your stay at rainbow lining. You will probably have a great stay. Free beer.
Where is the bus stop?!
On Google Maps, the location of a bus stop for a bus to Margao is at the intersection that is labeled as “way to Palolem Beach.”
The bus stop is on this corner but it might not be where the bus will stop to pick you up. But it will be very nearby.
There’s a rickshaw place, bike scooter place, taxi place… etc etc right behind the bus stop.
Wait for the bus to Margao to arrive!
There will be a number of buses to Margao that will pass by the bus stop here and it will come from the direction of the bridge.
What are the bus timings from Palolem to Margao?
I think the frequency of buses passing by Palolem that are going to Margao are frequent enough.
This means that you can just show up to the bus station and there will likely be a bus that will come soon enough.
If you are trying to catch a train (from Madgaon train station) or a flight (from Goa Airport), then taking the bus to Margao can be a reasonable option.
You just want to give yourself plenty of time.
So if you haven’t booked your train or flight, it would be better if you have an afternoon or evening train or flight to give yourself plenty of time.
Otherwise, it may be better to take a taxi (how much it costs to get to the airport), or to leave Palolem a day early and stay overnight in a city that’s closer to the airport or Margao.
Get on a bus going to Margao
To know which buses passing by are going to Margao, you can let the people around know you are going to Margao so then maybe they will let you know when it comes.
Or you can point at an approaching bus and ask if it’s going to Margao.
Most buses that stop will likely be going to Margao.
The next bus that arrived for me was a bus that was coming from Karwar in the neighboring state of Karnataka.
I waited for like 5 minutes at the bus stop.
So once you’re told it’s a bus to Margao…
Get on the bus!!
This bus didn’t actually stop right in front of the bus stop, but close enough.
Luckily this was not a completely full bus.
This is a risk you take when you’re getting a bus, especially if you’ll be boarding a bus that’s not from it’s originating station.
But there were open seats at the back of the bus. (Which also did make for an extra bumpy right at times!)
How much does it cost to go to Margao by bus?
Once you get on the bus, there will be a guy who will come around to collect the bus fare.
You’ll tell him you’re going to Margao, and he will tell you how much it costs.
My Palolem to Margao bus ticket cost 35 rupees (US$0.50).
