Hi there!
So you’re headed to Hampi!
I went from Goa to Hampi by train, taking the train that passes by Goa’s famous waterfalls. (It goes by quick, so you’ll need to be ready for it if you want to see it too!)
So if you’re also arriving to Hampi by train, then the Hospet train station will be the railway station to arrive at.
How long does it take to get from the train station to Hospet?
Depending on how you’re getting to Hospet, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to possibly close to 2 hours.
The quickest option will be to get direct transportation (auto rickshaw) straight from the train station.
The longer way will be by bus and might include walking time and waiting time.

Rickshaw to Hampi from Hospet?
There are loads of rickshaws outside the Hospet train station that will be happy to take you directly to Hampi.
It will naturally is a bit more expensive, but it’s still not too high of a cost.
I’ve been told that an auto rickshaw from Hospet to Hampi will cost around 150 rupees (US$2). A rickshaw in the opposite direction, from Hampi to Hospet will likely cost a little more, from 200-300 rupees (US$3-4).
I haven’t taken a rickshaw on this route, but I would also expect that when you’re on your way to Hampi that they will try to sell you on a Hampi rickshaw tour during your ride to Hampi, too!
A rickshaw will also get you to Hampi quicker, maybe in around 30 minutes.
But if you want to be a bit more environmentally friendly, or you just want to take the local bus because you have time…
Then taking the bus to Hampi is also an option!

Then once you’re outside the train station, you can start making your way to the Hospet bus station.
There will be 2 main ways to get to the bus station from the train station:
- Walk
- Rickshaw
Apparently there might be a bus that shows up directly at the train station that will make a stop at the Hospet train station, but I’m not sure how reliable this is.
When I got outside the train station, there was a bus waiting, but I was told that this was a private bus and basically that it wasn’t for me.
So then…
How far is the Hospet bus station from the railway station?
It’s about 1.5 km (1 mile) to get to the bus station.
You can get a rickshaw for this portion of it just to get to the bus stand.
There are plenty of rickshaws outside of the Hospet railway station that would be happy to give a ride.
I was offered a ride to the bus station for 20 rupees (US$0.30).
And similar to if you were to get a rickshaw all the way to Hampi, I imagine that you can expect to be attempted to be sold on getting a ride all the way to Hampi, or for a Hampi rickshaw tour!
And then, if you want to not take a rickshaw…
You can walk to the bus stand!
I used the maps.me app along with the GPS locator on my phone to walk to the bus station.
I also asked a couple of small side shops along the way to make sure I was going in the right direction.
It was a pretty straightforward walk though, as you are basically just going straight.
Shortly after you leave the train station, you’ll come across a junction, and here you’ll head to the left side. Again, a maps app can help with this!
And then just keep walking!
I walked to the bus station, and it took me around 20 minutes.

Get on the bus to Hampi
So once you arrive at the bus station, you’ll see a bunch of buses.
Basically, you can start to walk in front of the row of buses to see if you can find a bus that has a Hampi sign on it.
Most of the buses only have the local language of Kannada on it, but the bus to Hampi also had it in English.
If you don’t immediately see the Hampi bus, you can also ask a shop worker or another person that looks like they work at the bus station. They will probably know!
Then once you find the bus, you can get on the bus!
And then, wait for the bus to depart!
I was waiting for 20-30 minutes for the bus to leave.

So once you get on the bus, there will be someone who will come around to collect the bus ticket fare.

The first part of the bus ride is a bit loud as you’re driving through the city and a main road leading away from Hospet.
