Hi there!
If you’re looking for things to do in Cochin, cycling can make for the perfect activity for a day trip around Fort Cochin aka Fort Kochi.
You can go cycling in Kerala in other areas too, and it can make for good day trips in Alleppey, Varkala, and Munroe Island too.
Fort Cochin

The colonial past of Kerala is evident when you’re in Fort Cochin.
This can make the area of Fort Cochin very nice to explore by bicycle.
Fort Cochin to Marine Drive

I went by bicycle from Fort Cochin to Marine Drive in Ernakulam.

I did this on a day that there was a strike in Kerala which meant that most shops were closed and the roads were nearly empty.
This meant there were the perfect conditions for cycling on the roads! 😉
Once at Marine Drive, I took a tourist ferry around the waters there.

I locked up my bike on land during the boat ride.

Fort Cochin to Cherai Beach
Going from Fort Cochin to Cherai Beach can make for a good day trip.
You would ride your bike from where you’re staying in Fort Cochin to the Fort Cochin ferry station.
Then from there you’ll take a ferry to Vypin.
I have seen people carry their bicycles onto the public ferries in Cochin.
And then once you cross the water to reach Vypin, you can ride your bike the rest of the way to Cherai Beach!
And near Cherai Beach, you can also take a cycle boat ride!
I got to Cherai Beach by bus, but it seems completely reasonable to bike here too.

Bicycle rental in Cochin

In Fort Cochin, I was staying at Zostel Kochi. (This is a backpackers hostel chain in India, and there’s a Zostel in Alleppey too.)
When I was there, they offered bicycle rentals for around 200 rupees (US$3) for the whole day.
Refuel with FOOD in Fort Cochin!

No matter where you go cycling, once you get back you can refuel at one of the quaint places to eat in Fort Cochin!

HAPPY CYCLING IN COCHIN!
