So there are a few ways you can make Half Moon Beach a part of your time in Gokarna.
No matter what though, it will require a little bit of hiking!
Because there is no direct road access, you can expect less people than other kind of neighboring Gokarna beaches such as Kudle Beach and Om Beach. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll be all alone!
How to get to the hidden Half Moon Beach in Gokarna
1. Getting to Half Moon Beach from the nearest road
You can get dropped off by rickshaw at the start of the trail that leads to Half Moon Beach. To get back, it’ll be best to then hike to Om Beach. You probably won’t get a rickshaw very easily at the same spot you were dropped off unless you arrange it ahead of time.
2. Getting to Half Moon Beach from Om Beach
You can also start off your day at Om Beach. You can get a rickshaw to here. And from Om Beach you can hike to Half Moon Beach. Then, you can go back the same way you came, making it an out-and-back hike.
Or, when you’re done with your time at Half Moon Beach…

Here’s a bit of what it can look like if you hike to Half Moon Beach from the nearest road!
When I was in Gokarna, I stayed at Zostel Gokarna. They offer group treks (for a fee, like 300 rupees) for a Gokarna beach trek. And I did the hike to Half Moon Beach from the nearest road with Zostel in June 2019. It started mid-afternoon with a rickshaw to the start of the trail, and then we hiked to Half Moon Beach. After spending some time hanging around Half Moon Beach, we hiked to Om Beach. It ended with a walk to a perfect sunset spot!
But you can go to Half Moon Beach on your own too, without a tour.
