Yoga on the beach in India?!
Why yes of course! 😉
It’s said that there are plenty of health benefits to beach yoga, and you can get in some beach yoga right in Kerala!
So if you’ll be backpacking around Kerala… these are my top picks for backpacker beach towns in Kerala.
Where to go for yoga in Kerala!
aka… where to go for yoga with ocean views!
Yoga in Alleppey
So both Alleppey and Varkala will probably be on your list of places to consider visiting when backpacking Kerala.
Here we’ll talk about Alleppey.
Alleppey is most famous for backwaters.
Many people are in and out of Alleppey after they’ve done their backwaters activity of choice.
But Alleppey can also be the perfect place to stay for rest and relaxation…
And a little bit of yoga!
And one of the things that can make Alleppey perfect for yoga is the beach!
Why Alleppey is perfect for sunset beach yoga
Which part of Alleppey Beach to go?
So I consider there to be 3 main parts of Alleppey Beach.
There’s no literal separation between the beaches, as it’s just one long stretch of sand.
But if you’re looking for a good spot to do yoga, I would say the further north you go the better!
So further south is where you’ll find the main part of Alleppey Beach.
This can be the most crowded area of Alleppey Beach, particularly in the evening.
It can be nice to walk along this part between the 2 mentioned guesthouses/hostels, and you can decide where you want to stop for some yoga!
This stretch of beach probably won’t be completely empty, as this area is more of the local residential area of the beach.
But I think it’s better than the “main” part of the beach which is where you will likely find loads of the tourists.
And then you can even keep walking further up north along the beach, too!
How to book a beach yoga class in Kerala
Heading to the beach and doing your own yoga routine is of course always an option.
But if you are looking for a yoga class in Alleppey to take that will get you ocean views and the sound of ocean waves crashing…
You can book your beach yoga class in Alleppey by contacting Funky Art Beach House.
Phone number: 074035 72116 or +91 74035 72116
So basically, you can do a bunch of amazing things to do in Alleppey by staying here.
You can do your yoga routine on the rooftop with beach views and ocean views too!
But you can take the beach yoga class even if you’re not staying here.
The above sunset beach yoga photos are from the beach right near this guesthouse, and the below morning yoga photos are also from the grounds of this guesthouse!
How much does a yoga class cost?
For updated pricing, it’s best to call or message to find out.
But you can expect it to likely cost around 300-400 rupees (US$5) for a one hour class.
More of why Alleppey is perfect for yoga
This is morning yoga on a beachside property that comes with beach views, river views, and the sound of ocean waves! Perfect way to start your morning?! You can order breakfast here too after your yoga class.

How to book India train tickets online as a foreignerIf you don't want to go through the complicated process of setting up an IRCTC Indian railways account as a foreigner...
Then the most convenient way to buy train tickets online is through this booking website. I've used it, and it's super simple! You buy the ticket, and then show the electronic version on your phone once you're on the train. Compared to buying directly through an Indian ticket booking website (IRCTC account required) or directly at the train station in India, there is a small convenience fee, as well as a less flexible cancellation policy, though!
India tourist visa tip!Access to India as a foreigner seems to be getting friendlier! There's an e-visa now and this visa fee is far less than it was before. See the current cost of an e-visa by selecting your country. That's a partner website to make the evisa application process less stressful - it's possible to apply on your own too.
