Hi there!
Shatabdi express trains in India are a little “higher class” than the most long-distance trains (example) and local passenger trains (example).
These aren’t luxury trains, but they do give you a little extra comfort.
There are different class tickets you can book, most notably the executive chair car class (EC) and chair car class (CC).
These train classes both have AC.
Is executive class that much better?!
Honestly, having been on the train in both executive class and chair class, I really didn’t feel too much of a difference.
I guess that there is more room in executive class.
And maybe there will generally be less ticket bookings in executive class (just guessing since tickets are more expensive) maybe that means you have a greater chance of being on a train with not as high of an occupancy.
So with less people it can feel more empty, and that can make the train ride feel more relaxing in a sense.
How about the food in the Shatabdi executive class?
Shatabdi trains come with food automatically with your ticket.
It does seem like you get food served first, before the chair class.
So less waiting time for food!
Now…

And now you can see a little of what it’s like inside the Shatabdi CC chair car! (Really, you might not be able to tell much of a difference from these pictures!)
See the dinner food I got in Shatabdi EC, too!
Or, have a look at “normal” trains in India, including what it’s like to take a train with a general class ticket and what it’s like to take a local passenger train!
