Is it easy to get from Margao to Goa Airport by bus?!

Once you get to the Margao bus station, it can be a relatively simple process!

How to get to Goa Airport from Margao on a budget

This is the way I went to the airport from Margao anyway!

• Arrive at Margao bus station
• Buy a shuttle bus ticket to the airport
• Take bus going to the airport (around 30 minutes)
• Get off at bus stop near Goa Airport
• Walk to the airport
• Fly out of Goa!

Madgaon train station to Goa airport

So if you are arriving at the Madgaon railway station and you want to get to the airport, you can still follow these basic steps to get to the airport.

You just first need to get yourself to the Margao bus station!

For that, you basically have a few choices.

How to get from Madgaon train station to bus station

• Rickshaw
• Bus
• Walk

To get from the train station to the bus station is around 3.5 to 4km (2 to 2.5 miles), so it might take around 50 minutes to walk. 

If you don’t want to walk, then the next cheapest way to get to the Margao bus station is to go by bus to get there. 

You can find a bus by leaving the Madgaon train station from the backside. You’ll take the road leading from the train station to the main road, and it’s at the main road that you’ll find a bus to the bus station.

Also on the backside of the Madgaon train station are rickshaw drivers that would be happy to take you to the bus station.

There are pre-paid taxis at the front of the train station.

Bus to Vasco

Margao to airport to Vasco

The direct “shuttle bus” from Margao to the airport is probably the best option.

But in the case that for some reason it’s not available, your next best option is probably to find a bus to Vasco.

Buses to Vasco generally pass by the airport.

So you can also ask where to go to catch a bus to Vasco, and then once you get on the bus, you can confirm that it goes to the airport too. 

I would think that there are a decent frequency of buses that go from Margao to Vasco.

How much is a taxi to the airport?

The most convenient and quickest way to get to the airport would be to go by taxi.

You can expect it to cost a bit more than taking the bus, though!

According to the sign posted at the airport in 2019, a prepaid taxi from the airport to Margao costs around 870 rupees (US$15). 

So I would expect it to cost around the same in the opposite direction from Margao to the airport.

This is how I went to the airport!

Arrive at Margao bus station

Buy a shuttle bus ticket to the airport

So once you’re at the bus station, you’ll want to locate the ticket counter for the buses that go to the airport.

The easiest way to do this may be to ask someone who seems to work around the bus station. 

I arrived to the bus station (on a bus from Palolem!) from the opposite end of the ticket counter for buses to the airport.

So I walked to the other end. 

This bus station is not that big so it’s really not that long of a walk if you are on the opposite end. 

And then once you get to the ticket counter…

Buy your shuttle bus ticket for the airport!

How much does it cost to go to the airport by bus?

My Margao to Goa airport bus ticket cost 42 rupees (around US$0.50).

Get on bus going to the airport

At the ticket counter you can ask which bus to get on.

And then…

Get on the bus!

It was around 10-15 minutes after I bought my ticket that the bus departed.

Enjoy the bus ride!

Get off at the bus stop near Goa Airport

So finally during your bus ride…

You’ll start to see the airport!

The shuttle bus doesn’t stop directly in front of the airport. 

The bus stop is a turn away from the airport, so may will feel like you’re missing your stop… but, you probably aren’t!

Although it is a good idea to make sure the bus driver knows that you want to get off the bus at the airport!

How long is the bus ride?

My bus might have left the Margao bus station around 10:15am, and it arrived around 10:45am.

So the bus ride was around 30 minutes.

Walk to the airport

So while the shuttle bus won’t drop you off directly in front of the airport, it is still just a walk across the street to get to the airport.

Although it is a somewhat busy street so you’ll want to be careful!

You’ll see the airport from the bus stop.

You might see a bus to Vasco in front of the airport!

Fly out of Goa!
