BEACH: Best guesthouses in Alleppey near the beach

If you want some chill time during your time in Alleppey, consider finding accommodation near the beach.
This way, from the moment you arrive, you can have some true relaxation on the water without having to wait for your backwaters tour!
Then, if you go for a backwaters day tour, once you return you can continue to be at ease near the beach!
Have a look at these budget guesthouses near the beach:
- Funky Art Beach House (pictured above)
- Alleppey Beach Garden
- Sea Breeze Beach Homestay
- Pine Beach Residency
I stayed at Funky Art Beach House (more photos) for more than a few days. I think this is a very good place to stay in Alleppey if you are looking for that rest and relaxation time outside of the backwaters!
You even have the option to basically sleep outdoors on a rooftop and wake up to ocean views!
This really makes it one of the best places to stay in Alleppey for backpackers on a budget!

TOWN: Best guesthouses in Alleppey near town
Why stay in town?
If you aren’t particularly drawn to the beach, then staying in town can be a convenient option.
Finding accommodation in town means that you’ll be quite close to both the bus station and ferry station. You may also find more options in town for a cheap place to stay too.
So if you’re arriving to and leaving from Alleppey by bus, and then taking one of the best ferry boat rides around Alleppey as your choice for a backwaters activity, you might like the idea of staying near these public transportation stations.
It may also be easier to find a wider variety of food options when you stay in town too.

HOSTELS: Best hostels in Alleppey
Why stay at a hostel?
If you’re traveling alone, there are several cities in Kerala you can visit so that you can stay at a backpackers hostel in Kerala to meet other travelers.
Alleppey is among those cities.
Staying in a hostel in Alleppey can be a good way to meet people and find people to talk to in real conversational English so you stay sane. 😉
There are a couple of noteworthy hostels in Alleppey:
These hostels have nice common areas. They were also designed first and foremost as hostels so they have most of the amenities that you’d expect in a hostel.
What makes the Zostel in Alleppey even better is that it’s right along the beach.
I also visited Artpackers (pictured below), and it seems to have a nice vibe.
I do like the location of Zostel better though, as it’s right by the beach!

How to spend the perfect 2 days in Alleppey
If you have limited time for your Kerala itinerary, 2 days can be the perfect amount of time to stay in Alleppey.
And a perfect 2 days in Alleppey includes time on the beach! 😉
Day 1: Alleppey Beach
Arrive in Alleppey. Find a place to stay near the beach so that after a day of travel, you can just chill out and take in the ocean views!
If you arrive earlier in the day, go out into town and buy fresh fish, prawns, and a few spices. And since you’ve chosen well and you’re staying at a guesthouse with a kitchen, you can fry your own seafood for dinner!
Kerala is known for its seafood so this makes for the perfect meal when in Alleppey.
Day 2: Kerala backwaters
Dedicate the next day to what Kerala is known for!
Take your pick with how you want to spend that time on the backwaters.
Whichever option you choose, make sure you have a coconut on the Kerala backwaters! 😀
And once you’re done with your backwaters activity, back to your awesome beachside guesthouse you go! 😀

How to book India train tickets online as a foreignerIf you don't want to go through the complicated process of setting up an IRCTC Indian railways account as a foreigner...
Then the most convenient way to buy train tickets online is through this booking website. I've used it, and it's super simple! You buy the ticket, and then show the electronic version on your phone once you're on the train. Compared to buying directly through an Indian ticket booking website (IRCTC account required) or directly at the train station in India, there is a small convenience fee, as well as a less flexible cancellation policy, though!
India tourist visa tip!Access to India as a foreigner seems to be getting friendlier! There's an e-visa now and this visa fee is far less than it was before. See the current cost of an e-visa by selecting your country. That's a partner website to make the evisa application process less stressful - it's possible to apply on your own too.
